At J&B Recycling, we believe that making a positive impact goes far beyond the materials we collect and process. As part of our commitment to social value, we’re proud to support initiatives that benefit local communities, promote wellbeing, and encourage sustainable living.

Recently, our Marketing Coordinator, Izzy, joined volunteers from Sunderland University, Sunderland City Council, and Nissan to help prepare the University’s community garden for the winter months. The team spent the day digging, weeding, and tidying up the space, ensuring it’s ready for a fresh start next spring.

The community garden is a shared green space where students and local residents come together to grow vegetables and herbs throughout the summer. It provides a valuable opportunity for people to connect, learn new skills, and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of spending time outdoors.

Izzy said: “It was a brilliant experience. Everyone really got stuck in, and it was great to see people from different organisations working together for such a worthwhile cause. The garden brings people together, promotes healthy lifestyles, and encourages more sustainable ways of living - it’s a project that aligns perfectly with J&B Recycling’s values.”

J&B Recycling works in partnership with a number of local authorities across the North East, including Sunderland City Council, where we process household recycling collected from residents across the area. We’re passionate about supporting the communities we serve through meaningful social value initiatives that go hand in hand with our operational contracts.

Social value plays an important role in how we do business. We actively look for ways to give back, whether that’s through volunteering, providing educational opportunities, supporting local charities, or creating employment and training pathways. From school workshops and MRF tours to apprenticeships and community projects, we’re proud to use our business as a force for good.
