Careers at J&B

Over the 20 years I have been with J&B Recycling, my role has changed and grown significantly. Through training and promotions, I have worked in most departments from HGV driving through to managing the operations and staff at the South Tees site. Now I deliver training across all sites. It feels great to know that I have contributed to the growth and success, and I am part of a company who are forward thinking, innovative and committed to investing for the future.

I started as an office junior with J&B Recycling over 18 years ago. Being involved with the development of the business and various large projects has provided fantastic opportunities for personal progression. From working on the weighbridge, transport, facilities, environmental, quality, and now operations, I truly feel I have grown with the business. Being part of a successful company within the North East is great, especially knowing that I, along with the help and support from the team, have contributed to what the company has accomplished so far.

I joined J&B Recycling as the Health & Safety Manager, where I’m responsible for ensuring our sites operate safely and in line with industry regulations. My role involves working closely with teams across the business to maintain high safety standards, carry out audits and inspections, and support colleagues with training and guidance. Health and safety is a key part of everything we do, and I’m passionate about helping create a safe working environment for our staff, visitors and contractors across all our sites.

I drive an articulated lorry between our Washington and Hartlepool sites, transporting materials between the two facilities. It’s an important part of keeping the operation running efficiently, making sure materials arrive safely and on time so they can be processed through our recycling systems at the Hartlepool Materials Recycling Facility.

Before joining J&B Recycling, I worked at a national bank and then as a mortgage advisor at a local estate agent. But when the opportunity at J&B Recycling popped up, it was a no-brainer for me. It meant I could have that perfect work-life balance and spend more cherished moments with my two adorable young sons. J&B Recycling lured me in with its part-time role, juggling work and family is tough, but here, I've found the flexibility I need, especially with two little ones in the picture.

"At TMD Friction, I was eventually put forward for a role within the health & safety team by the Health & Safety Manager at the beginning of lockdown in 2020. When the role of Health & Safety Officer came up at J&B Recycling, I felt it was time to move on to a new challenge. Professionally, I have gained lots of experience. There are some similarities to my previous role, but overall, it is very different."

"Since joining J&B Recycling as a Transport Coordinator in 2019, I've been dedicated to ensuring our operations run smoothly across the North East. My previous role as Logistics Manager at Leader Online gave me valuable experience in client relations and logistics, which has been instrumental in my current position. I’m passionate about sustainability both at work and in my personal life, actively seeking ways to reduce my environmental footprint. While I share a name with a famous musician, my focus here at J&B Recycling is on making a real difference in our operations and our commitment to the environment."

I’m a Forklift Driver at the Windermere Road site. My role focuses on loading wagons with bales of material for reprocessing, helping ensure efficient transportation and contributing to sustainable recycling efforts.

I joined J&B Recycling when I started college as a Weighbridge Operator, where I supported the weighing of wagons and helped ensure all the relevant data was recorded accurately. It was a great introduction to the industry and gave me a good understanding of how the site operates day to day. Since then, I’ve moved into the Transport Team, where I now conduct driver debriefs and support the coordination of vehicles returning from their routes. This helps ensure everything runs smoothly and that we continue to deliver the best possible service to our customers.

I joined J&B Recycling in March of 2024 as an Accounts Administrator and have really enjoyed settling into my role. My main responsibilities include updating ledgers, managing invoices, and ensuring payments are on track. I’m excited to contribute to strengthening the accounts function and supporting the team’s efficiency!

I joined J&B Recycling 16 years ago, starting in collections where I managed customer accounts and invoices. Now, I work in material sales and compliance, overseeing the materials entering and leaving the yard. What I love most about J&B is the amazing team—everyone is so helpful and always there when I need them!

Over the last 16 years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with local authorities to help them achieve the best outcomes for their communities. My journey with J&B Recycling reflects my passion for the environment and commitment to making a positive impact. Here’s to many more years of innovation in recycling!

As a bin driver at J&B Recycling, I get to work with a variety of vehicles, which keeps every day interesting. What I enjoy most is being part of a team that values hard work and supports one another. It’s rewarding to know I’m contributing to something that makes a real difference for the environment.

I’m a Business Administration Apprentice at J&B Recycling, a role I started in July 2025 alongside my apprenticeship at Hartlepool College of FE. In my role, I help manage broker contracts and upload them onto our systems, making sure everything is recorded accurately. I also support the team with a range of office tasks and help resolve any customer queries or issues that come in. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about how the business operates while developing my skills in administration and customer support.

I’m proud to be part of the J&B Recycling team as a Forklift Driver. Working together with a great team, I help ensure materials are loaded efficiently for reprocessing. Teamwork is key to keeping everything running smoothly and making a positive impact on the environment.

Being the Site Manager at both our South Tees and Baltic Street sites is all about looking after the people and the processes that make everything run smoothly. I take pride in supporting my team, helping them develop their skills, and ensuring we work together efficiently to achieve our goals. It’s rewarding to see how, by working as a team, we can overcome challenges and create a workplace where everyone feels valued and motivated to succeed.

As a Line Supervisor, I’m proud to lead a team that plays such a crucial role in the recycling process. We work hard to remove any contaminants missed by the machines, making sure the quality of our output is top-notch. It’s rewarding to know that our efforts help maintain high standards and contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

I’ve been with J&B Recycling for 14 years, and it’s incredible to see how much we’ve grown - from handling just 12 wagons a day to now managing 70 and more. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work across all our sites, including some that are now closed, and I’ve trained most of the staff currently working on the weighbridge. It’s been an amazing journey, and when I’m not at work, I enjoy spending quality time with my grandchildren and my wife, Myra.

I first joined J&B Recycling through a work experience placement, and I’ve been lucky to grow with the company ever since. I took the opportunity to do a marketing apprenticeship, which I recently completed with a distinction. Now as a Marketing Assistant, I’m excited to continue learning and am looking forward to pursuing my degree apprenticeship within the company. I absolutely love my office and the environment here, especially with the recent introduction of FCC Environment - it’s great to be part of a company that’s so committed to sustainability and helping youth develop.

I originally joined J&B Recycling as the Marketing Manager, managing our social media and website. Over time, I’ve transitioned into a role on the sales side, and I’ve really enjoyed the change. I’m fortunate to work with a fantastic team of hardworking individuals, all of whom share the same passion and commitment to our goals. It’s great to see how our collective efforts contribute to the company’s growth and success.

I joined the J&B Recycling team back in September 2022. It’s been an exciting journey, and I’ve learned so much along the way. I started out as a Weighbridge Operator, where my main role was weighing wagons in and out and making sure all the data was logged into the system properly. At the same time, I also helped out the Accounts team with admin tasks like filing and paperwork. In June 2024, I was offered a role as a Customer Service Assistant, which is the position I’m in now, in which I have recently started my apprenticeship in!
