Annual Waste Transfer Notes Sent to All JB Recycling Clients

Annual Waste Transfer Notes Sent to All J&B Recycling Clients

04.08.26

We are currently emailing all of our customers with their annual Duty of Care documents (Controlled Waste Transfer Note). This is an important legal document that helps both your business and J&B Recycling comply with UK waste legislation and demonstrates that your waste is being managed responsibly.

What is a Waste Transfer Note?

A Waste Transfer Note (WTN) is a legal document that records the transfer of non-hazardous controlled waste from one party to another. It forms part of the Duty of Care requirements under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, together with the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011.

A Waste Transfer Note includes important information such as:

  • A description of the waste, including the type, quantity and relevant classification.
  • Details of the waste producer and the registered waste carrier.
  • The date on which the waste was transferred.
  • Confirmation that the waste has been managed in accordance with the waste hierarchy, giving priority to prevention, reuse, recycling and recovery before disposal.

Why is a Waste Transfer Note Important?

Legal Compliance

Businesses that produce, import, carry, keep, treat or dispose of controlled waste have a legal Duty of Care to ensure it is managed correctly. Waste Transfer Notes must be retained for a minimum of two years and produced if requested by the relevant regulator.

Proof of Responsible Waste Management

A Waste Transfer Note provides evidence that your waste is being transferred to an authorised waste carrier and managed in accordance with UK legislation.

Supporting Environmental Responsibility

The Waste Transfer Note confirms that waste is being managed in line with the waste hierarchy, helping to minimise environmental impact by prioritising reuse, recycling and recovery wherever possible.

Protecting Your Business

Failure to comply with Duty of Care requirements may result in enforcement action by the Environment Agency, including fines or prosecution. Keeping accurate records helps demonstrate compliance and protects your business.

What Do You Need to Do?

Please look out for your annual Duty of Care email from customerservice@jbrecycling.co.uk.

Once received, please:

  • Review the information provided.
  • Sign and return the Waste Transfer Note as soon as possible.
  • Contact us if any of the information is incorrect or if you require any amendments.

Returning your signed Waste Transfer Note helps ensure that both your business and J&B Recycling remain compliant with UK waste legislation and demonstrates our shared commitment to responsible waste management.

If you have any questions or require any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our team.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter and for continuing to work with J&B Recycling.
