J&B Recycling invests in new vehicles

27.01.21

J&B Recycling has placed an order for five new vehicles in its collection fleet bringing the total vehicle investment to £1million.

Delivery of the first two new Mercedes-Benz Econic 2630Ls took place on January 21 and was the first Mercedes-Benz delivery of 2021, fitted with the latest Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking technology, taking J&B’s fleet to a total of 15 vehicles and five trailers.

These two vehicles are the first of five refuse collection vehicles to replace existing units in our fleet between now and April 21. This investment will put us in a strong position when lockdown eases and business waste starts to increase, especially in the hospitality sector. Thus enhancing our efficient reliable and cost effective service to commercial bin customers.

Over the past five years the Hartlepool operation has installed upgrades to its facilities and vehicles following a £7.5m investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF) in 2014, which has enabled the company to record its highest amount of material ever processed during the first six months of 2020.

Matthew Tyrie, Operations Director at J&B Recycling, said: “The purchase of the new vehicles fits well with our commitment to invest in improved technology offering an ability to link data to back office systems allowing a more automation approach with our data on collections.

“With new vehicles, we anticipate financial benefits of reduced downtime and associated cost to the business, along with reliability benefits to ensure a continued first class service for our customers.

“We are excited to be looking towards 2021 with renewed optimism. The vehicles are only a part of our plans to continually improve the customer experience when our collections return as lockdown restrictions ease. I am sure the new technology of the Terberg TMDW9020 dynamic weighing will give us valuable data that we can use to further drive efficiencies and enhance service to our customers.”

This project has been supported by Craig Graham of Bell Truck and Van, Mercedes-Benz and Paul Rochester of Terberg Matec UK, our partners for bin lifts and dynamic weighing systems to produce the optimum vehicle specification. The combined extensive industry knowledge is key to futureproofing our fleet.

The upgraded fleet allows for increased reliability of our vehicles resulting in improved service levels and increased efficiency due to less downtime. We are therefore able to offer superior recycling solutions to contracts, reflecting our high standards.
