We were proud to sponsor and support the PFC Trust & District Barbarians women’s rugby squad as they travelled to Thailand to compete in the Bangkok International 10s tournament.
This marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time a women’s team from Hartlepool has competed internationally.
The squad brought together players from across the North East, including Hartlepool, Darlington, Stockton and Bishop Auckland, showcasing the strength and continued growth of women’s rugby in our region.
Competing in temperatures of up to 35°C and against strong international teams, the squad showed real resilience and determination throughout the tournament. A standout moment came from Darlington’s Rachel Brawn Turnbull, whose impressive try was a highlight for both the team and their travelling supporters.
While results didn’t go their way, the impact of the trip went far beyond the scoreboard. The tour fulfilled an ambition inspired by the late Alby Pattison OBE of Hart Biologicals, who had long hoped to see a women’s team from Hartlepool compete internationally.

Experiences like this play an important role in developing the women’s game, creating opportunities for players and helping to raise the profile of rugby across the North East.
Supporting initiatives like this is part of our wider commitment to our local communities. Alongside FCC Environment, we’re proud to support opportunities that inspire participation, development and long-term impact across the region.
Vikki Jackson Smith, Managing Director of J&B Recycling, said:
“We’re proud to support initiatives that create opportunities within our local communities, and this is a fantastic achievement for women’s sport in the North East. Seeing a team from Hartlepool compete on an international stage reflects the growing strength of the women’s game, and we’re pleased to play a part in supporting their journey.”
We’d like to congratulate all of the players, coaches and organisers involved. Representing Hartlepool on an international stage is a fantastic achievement and an important moment for women’s sport in the North East.
