As the UK starts to ease its coronavirus restrictions and people return to spending, J&B Recycling has been focusing on how, as a company, it will best help the local economy.

We are a North East-based business and know how important it is to buy from companies in our community, not only during this difficult time but always.

We are proud to support the local economy with our overall purchase spend with North East businesses in 2020 currently at 52%, all of whom we have built strong relationships with over the past 25 years.

Vikki Jackson-Smith, Managing Director at J&B Recycling, said: “As North East business owners we must support each other through these times to come out stronger.

“Our focus is on spending money with local, independent businesses as our customers do with us. We have a strong and loyal supply chain in the region with suppliers that have been vitally important to us during coronavirus.

“Having local suppliers helps us to minimise our downtime, improve productivity and reliability as well as working to reduce the carbon footprint of the company.”

In the April, May and June of 2020, we have spent £311,131 within the North East, £244,843 of which was within the Teesside area.

During coronavirus restrictions we purchased a variety of products and services such as health and safety equipment, machine and vehicle parts, local planning, architects and design business as well as lawyers and accountants to assist with our next infrastructure project to further develop our sites and facilities, all supplied from the great talent we have within the region.

Further investment of circa £100k in our vehicles resulted in the recent purchase of two HGV units from Stockton-based MAN; a company that also provides service and maintenance for our extensive fleet of vehicles.

J&B’s ethos is to focus on spending and supporting business and the economy locally at every opportunity.

We have been using resources such as the Tees Valley Combined Authority’s Buy Local Tees Valley Directory to showcase and use the services of our fellow North East businesses during this time.
