J&B Recycling has recently appointed a new Health and Safety Officer at our North East headquarters.
Matthew Orpen started his new role at the end of July and has been enjoying his time taking on his new responsibilities.
Matthew’s role will involve supporting Health, Safety and Environment Manager, Michael Robinson with site inspections and audits. He will also help to write risk assessments and safe systems of work as well as keeping the company training matrix up-to-date and carrying out the majority of company and contractor inductions.
Michael Robinson, Health, Safety and Environment Manager at J&B Recycling, said: “He has the experience needed to succeed within this role and has the correct attitude to learn new skills and develop as a Health and Safety Officer.
“We appointed Matthew because he’s the kind of character that would fit in at J&B and he has taken to his new role really well.”
J&B has recently achieved ISO45001 accreditation as well as purchasing a fourth site and recording record growth for a third year running. With Matthew’s appointment the company hopes to continue developing and maintaining the health and safety management system.
The company processes 165,000 tonnes of waste every year, including kerbside materials, construction waste and corporate recycling from its state-of-the-art Material Recycling Facility in Hartlepool.
With over 200 staff and many contractors and partners on-site, health and safety is of optimum importance and adding a new Health and Safety Officer to the team shows our commitment to growth in the right way.
Michael continued: “The company is continually improving and developing, and I believe Matthew’s appointment reflects this. The company is very safety conscious and goes over and above industry standards.”
