Some of you might remember us sharing the moving story of JB, a special cat who’s become a much loved character here at J&B Recycling, and a symbol of why no animal belongs in a bin.
Found on the Picking Line
Three years ago, our Quality Control Team spotted something unusual on the picking line at our Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Within one of the incoming waste loads, a tiny kitten was discovered - scared, vulnerable, and in need of urgent care. She had somehow found her way into the waste stream and been carried into the facility.
The team brought JB into the office, where our staff cared for her through bottle feeding and lots of cuddles! She was taken to the vet, where she was treated with her injuries, one of these resulting in her sadly loosing a foot.
A New Home, A New Life
After recovering under the loving care of our team, Ingrid, our Sales & Marketing Manager, stepped forward and offered JB a forever home. She joined Ingrid’s family, her two sons, and husband Dan in their home where she plays in the dene and in the garden.
JB has settled in well, and has made friends with neighbouring cats. One of those, known to Ingrid as “Mama Cat,” has been a loyal companion to JB since the very beginning. According to Ingrid, JB is loving, playful, and full of cuddles, she’s truly thrived in her new life.
Why “JB”?
She was named JB because this is where she was found and given a second time at life. The whole team loves getting updates and seeing how far she’s come. Her resilience is a daily reminder of the unexpected lives we can touch through our work.
She’s Not the Only One
JB isn’t the only animal we’ve rescued. Over the years, we’ve found and saved several cats at our facility. Each time, our priority is to make sure they’re rehomed responsibly. We carry out home checks and only place animals in safe, loving environments.
Special shoutout to Marta, a member of our Health & Safety team, who’s always the first to care for animals who arrive at our site. Marta ensures they’re safe, fed, and loved while we find the right home for them.
A Message on International Cat Day
JB isn't the first cat we've had at our facility, and as much as we hope she would be the last, we have still had kittens come through on the line.
JB’s story is a powerful reminder: no animal belongs in a bin. At J&B Recycling, we take great care to monitor incoming waste and prevent situations like this from happening. But we also rely on the public to dispose of waste responsibly and stay aware of their surroundings.
There’s always a home for these animals - and always someone who cares.
