J&B Recycling, one of the UKs leading general waste recyclers has announced further growth in its North East operations.

Following the recent Corporate Livewire award win where the company were recognised as the "most outstanding in recycling solutions", the firm has created eight new roles and promoted three current employees to new positions as its growth continues.

Strong foundations

In 2003 J&B won its first recycling contract and in the following years it went on to win contracts right across the UK. In 2014 J&B received £7m from the Business Growth Fund that it used to invest in its operations.

Today the company has 21 vehicles, over 200 members of staff and recycles 160,000 tonnes of materials annually across three sites in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough. We are continually striving to expand our business with both new and existing customers and during the two years to March 2017 we have increased our turnover by 65%.

Vikki Jackson-Smith, managing director of J&B Recycling, said: "In 2017 we are looking to build upon the success we’ve seen and are identifying potential new development areas that could lead to further growth in staff and turnover.

A growing J&B family

These new positions are part of J&B’s strategy to improve employee advancement and development and improve the workplace for current and future employees.

Sarah Jennison, initially a part-time employee, is now full time in her new role as a Weighbridge Coordinator. Sarah has been at J&B Recycling for eight years and was originally employed as a Weighbridge Operator. In her time at J&B she has worked in the Transport Office as well as in administration.

Craig Flounders, was originally employed as a Quality Inspector in November 2015, and has been promoted to Quality Inspector Team Leader. He said, “I’m so happy to be given the opportunity to take on more responsibilities within J&B. I hope that in my time here I can keep improving and advancing.’

Clare Bradley has expanded her role and responsibilities. She now concentrates her time on all aspects of quality control within the business including customer care. Clare commented: “I joined 8 years ago as Customer Services Executive and my promotion to Quality Control Representative is a fantastic reward. Throughout my time the senior team have supported and encouraged me to take on new duties and it’s a great feeling knowing they have faith in my abilities and development."

Anne White, Human Resources Manager, concluded: “Here at J&B, we believe in promoting from within the company where possible and Clare, Sarah and Craig have all shown commitment and excellence, not only in their roles but by taking on additional tasks and developing new skills."
