Female waste industry leaders have come together to talk about gender in the sector.
Our MD Vikki Jackson-Smith joined other women in the recycling industry to talk about their experiences in leading trade magazine MRW.
The piece was entitled ‘So – is gender an issue for the sector’s workforce?’ and also featured Carol Crumlin, Office Manager, Vanden Recycling, Lynsey Kirkwood, Business Growth Executive, Vanden Recycling, and Emma Elston, Chief Executive of UK Container Maintenance.
In the article Vikki talked about having an equal balance in the J&B management team and finding the right person for the job, regardless of gender.
Speaking to the MRW’s Andrea Lockerbie Vikki said: “I have never experienced any issues being a female within this industry but feel that J&B, like many others, is ensuring that equal opportunities and equal pay is the norm.
“I am keen to see equal opportunities and pay across all industries and, if this results in more women joining the waste industry, then that is great. I have always been a believer in finding the right person for the job and the challenge.”
J&B Recycling recently took the title of Business of the Year at the inaugural Tees Business Businesswomen of the Year Awards.
