J&B Recycling are no fly-by-night and have been providing waste management services since 1998, having undergone a continual period of organic growth and reinvestment up to the present day. The development of the company has seen it grow from a small family-managed business into a reputable, well-established recycling and waste management company that is recognised nationally.

Social Responsibility

At J&B we believe in engaging, respecting and supporting the community in which we work and strive to provide employment and economic opportunities in the areas where we operate. We are active in the local community raising awareness of the benefits of recycling, working in partnership with local schools

As part of this process we have entered into a minimum 3 year partnership with Hartlepool and District Hospice as one of their Guild of Patrons members. The Guild of Patrons provide a regular stream of funding to the hospice to help with their provision of inpatient, day care, counselors and social support for patients with life limiting illnesses, their families and carers.

The Hospice’s dedicated team is focused on helping families overcome the physical, emotional, social and spiritual challenges that illnesses such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and heart failure can bring.

J&B feel it is important to contribute to the local community, which will benefit our business, in terms of customer and employee retention, plus customers and employees themselves who live in Hartlepool and East Durham.

Additionally, we actively support a number of local initiatives which benefit the local community, we are a long term sponsor of MUSIC v CANCER (MvC) a local charity which raises funds to support awareness raising and pre-screening for symptoms of cancer.

Tony Larkin, Founder of the Music v Cancer charity, said: “Without the support of the local business community through donations and sponsorships of the MvC Live Sessions, the events would simply cease to exist. Vikki Jackson-Smith (J&B Managing Director) and her team have been generous supporters of MvC for a number of years now. We hope our relationship with Vikki and her team continues to grow in the years to come.”

As part of Business in the Community (BITC) program  we are a long term sustianable partner of Dyke House School to devlop relevant, impactful and high quality experiences for the benefit of loacl young people under leadership and governance, enterprise and employability, curriculum and wider issues

We also have a close relationship with Catcote Academy & Catcote Futures (Special Education School and College)- Our Managing Director is a Governor of the school and an active supporter. They support people aged 11- 25, all students have a wide range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities and have a statement of educational need/education health care (EHC) plan. We work with one of their students with Learning Disabilities. She has been coming in to our offices for almost two years to gain work experience and confidence preparing her for the real working environment. We have committed to providing supported internship to their students which is for young people aged 16 to 24 with a special educational need and who have an EHC Plan. Young people spend the majority of their time in the working environment and one day at college studying specific qualifications relevant to the role, We hope that through this fantastic programme we can further increase the employment opportunities for young people with Learning difficulties into paid & meaning full employment. Only 5.8% of young people with learning difficulties/disabilities are in paid work, however statistics show that 65% say that they want to work.

We work with the school providing materials for their upcycle and reuse Social Enterprise Scheme to transform waste wood in to furniture and we provide students with supported internships so that they can develop work skills and prepare for sustained work in the future. Items will be sold in Catcote Metro, which is based in Middleton Grange Shopping Centre, to the general public. This opportunity further embeds employability skills to the students through offering a clear routeway into retail & customer services. The skills that these students can obtain are invaluable as they can also be transferred to life skills, handling cash, communication and promoting an enterprise spirit. We can pass your waste materials (furniture suitable for upcycle and wood etc.) directly to the project if agreed so that you can be listed as an active supporter/sponsor of the project linking in with your own CSR agenda. We are happy to discuss this further if required.
